I like to check in once a week to see how my healthy habits are coming along. It gives me momentum for the next week if I did well, and it lets me start fresh if I didn’t do so great….
My workouts were nice this week because it was spring break, so most of the students weren’t at the gym. I didn’t have to stalk the machines or anything. I tried spinning for the first time. I sweat like a fat hairy man. In a good way. I used the built in programs (you can plug ur ipod into it if you have a workout on there, or you can watch a virtual man instruct you through it). I think I was so amused with the fake man that I didn’t realize an hour went by. Turns out he’s not fake and his name is Josh Hunter. This is what the built in program looks like:
Word to the wise-wear black and have a sweat towel. You will look like you peed your pants.
I also had some good runs this week. I was feeling all weird on my runs (like jello-ish), so I cranked up the speed. This actually helped. Hey, if my body wants to go faster, Im not going to tell it otherwise. Im running a 10k in 2 weeks and I really want to break an hour (I havent decided if I am a slow runner in general, or I’m just scared to push myself faster). I just finished an 11-miler and then biked home (no matter how many times I do that, I always forget that it’s a bad decision). I got a little “this sucks” at the end-but I made it through. Sad news: my ipod shuffle died. I think I wore the battery out. He carried me through alot of miles training for the marathon.
Food wise….Im so over shepherds pie. I made way too much for one person. I feel like Ive eaten it every day this week. I have discovered a new smoothie that I am in love with-Mango Jalapeno (I added half a jalapeno and kept some of the seeds to make one smoothie…what can I say, I love a little heat). It’s posted over at No Meat Athlete (with pictures and all). When I was training for the marathon, No Meat Athlete was my lifesaver (warning: you will feel like going for a run after visiting his page). It was one of the few places I found that had really great running advice along with real (not fake burger crumble-crap) vegetarian food.
Also, my strawberry plant had its first baby!
I have no idea why I bought a strawberry plant-it was at the farmers market and it was $3. I always try to grow herbs or tomatoes and it never works. Hopefully I don’t kill this one.
School starts up again this week (sadness) so it’s back to the grind. I have two recipes I’m planning on making (and sharing with you guys) that Im quite excited about. I also got asked by Meatless Mondays to post vegetarian things on Mondays. I really like their philosophy of changing one thing to make a difference, so I agreed. Check it out tomorrow (and every Monday after that!).
How did everyone else’s week go?
